Why Flow-Formed Nitronic 50
Standard mill-supplied Nitronic 50 already offers roughly double the yield strength of 316/316L stainless and superior resistance to sulfide stress cracking and crevice corrosion. Flow forming pushes those properties further. By applying compressive force through three rollers over an inner mandrel, we drive the alloy past its yield point, refining the microstructure and elongating the tube to the specified wall thickness with no welds, seams, or chips. The cold-worked result is denser, stronger, and finished closer to net shape than anything machined from raw bar.
For drill string designers and downhole tool engineers, that translates to three things: higher yield in the same wall, tighter tolerances out of the gate, and consistent non-magnetic behavior. It's a property that disappears in many austenitic grades once they're cold-worked, but it holds in Nitronic 50 stainless steel because nitrogen-strengthening stabilizes the austenite.
